Wisdom Tooth Extractions
Normally appearing in the late teenage years or early twenties, your third molars or “wisdom teeth” are commonly removed due to several issues that may arise including crowding, being impacted, and gum tissue-related problems. Our doctors remove wisdom teeth in-office so there’s no need to visit an oral surgeon.
Why Do Wisdom Teeth Need To Be Removed?
Wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to appear in the mouth. Usually, adults develop their wisdom teeth between ages 17 and 25. It’s also possible to never develop wisdom teeth at all, and that’s perfectly okay. Sometimes the mouth isn’t big enough for all permanent teeth, and there may not be room left for wisdom teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth are those that don’t have room to grow. These can cause pain, infection, or other dental problems. If you have impacted wisdom teeth, one of our doctors will recommend extracting these teeth.
If a wisdom tooth has already erupted or broken through the gum, then one of our doctors will perform a simple extraction. On the other hand, if the wisdom tooth hasn’t erupted yet, a surgical extraction will need to be performed.
After the procedure, the Dentistry At Somerset dental team will give detailed instructions on what to expect and how to take care of your mouth in order to lessen pain and prevent infection.
